Meet Kacey Smith

Vice President, Business Development, National Police Credit Union

Born in the Golden State and raised in Nebraska, Kacey Smith always knew she was destined to help others. Since settling into her cross-country career move from The Windy City to Arizona, she can safely say that her dreams have come true. She is beyond excited to be part of an all-star team bringing exceptional financial opportunities and educational programs to every Law Enforcement Officer and their family throughout the United States.

Kacey’s childhood extracurricular activities included reading to and caring for senior citizens, participating in Habitat for Humanity, and in her teens, mentoring youth for a Big Sisters/Little Sisters program. Kacey’s role model was her mother, who consistently juggled multiple jobs while exploring entrepreneurialism in order to provide everything she could for her little girl.

Following high school, Kacey went in search of her true calling, which led to Arizona. There she dabbled in various business endeavors while taking classes in between, but she never felt truly satisfied. Due to family reasons, Kacey moved to Chicago in 2006, at which time she applied for a job with Chicago Patrolmen’s Federal Credit Union, the 82-year-old full-service financial institution serving various Law Enforcement agencies throughout the State of Illinois. The Credit Union was seeking a sharp leader with an eye towards the future; Kacey was in search of an opportunity to serve. A match was made, and she has been with the company ever since doing what she loves best – helping individuals fulfill their life’s financial goals.

Chicago Patrolmen’s is known for mentoring employees and promoting from within; Kacey is no exception. Her career with the Credit Union began as a Branch Representative in a universal teller/member service role. While demonstrating strong leadership abilities, she was promoted to Branch Supervisor, which included work in multiple branches, eventually leading to an “in the field” job with the Mobile Services team. Kacey’s responsibilities included creating a presence in the Police Districts, at the Police Academy, and at various Police Organization events throughout the year.

The Mobile Services team was not as fast-paced as the front line, so Kacey found opportunities to make things happen. At this time, she served as a liaison for the Credit Union with the Chicago Police Department (CPD) to assist with Peace in the Park After Dark. This initiative is an overnight camping event organized by members of CPD in honor of Thomas Wortham, IV, an officer who was killed in 2010 during a robbery. The event allows kids in the neighborhood to really be kids. Kacey received three Honorary Civic Commendations for her participation.

Additionally, Kacey sought ways to increase the Credit Union’s bottom line. To boost new auto loan volume and create convenience for the membership, Kacey developed the “Write Your Own Ticket” program, which allows members to bring a “blank check” to their car dealership to ease the auto purchasing process. This program continues to excel five years after it was first introduced.

Stemming directly from her hard work and dedication to the membership, Kacey was promoted to Branch Manager of the Central Branch in 2014. Overseeing a stellar team of professionals, Kacey’s responsibilities included managing and streamlining all front-line procedures and back office operations for the Credit Union’s Headquarters location. Highlights of her position included multiple first-place awards for monthly in-house sales competitions; implementing structured procedures for New Member accounts; limited employee turnover; and the mentoring and promotion of several staff members.

During this time, Kacey received the prestigious 2015 “40 Under 40” award for progression in business from Demoiselle 2 Femme, the Chicago-based non-profit whose mission is to provide holistic services, education, instruction, and training to assist adolescent girls in a successful transition to womanhood. Kacey’s involvement with the organization continues today, including participation in the College Connection committee, which focuses on supporting college girls through the distribution of care packages and blazers for interviews; helping them understand their credit; and creating budgets.

Kacey’s social acumen and desire to build strong relationships led to her recent acceptance of a new position within the Credit Union: Vice President, Business Development for National Police Credit Union, a marketing division of Chicago Patrolmen’s Federal Credit Union. National Police Credit Union is the first and only full-service financial institution created solely for Law Enforcement Officers and their families throughout the United States. In this role, Kacey is responsible for building and growing the National Police Credit Union brand and directing the operations of the Credit Union’s first Business Office located in Tempe, AZ. Kacey is loving her return to the beautiful state of Arizona, where she is, indeed, fulfilling her dream of serving those who are so deserving.
